MINDFULNESS-BASED

STRESS REDUCTION

"Go inside and listen to your body because your body will never lie to you. Your mind will play tricks, but the way you feel in your heart, in your guts, is the truth". Don Miguel Ruiz

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction - What's it about?
The MBSR programme is evidence based and highly valued worldwide, as a way of reducing physical, mental and emotional stress and increasing a sense of well-being, resilience and autonomy.
Designed as an eight-week programme, MBSR is highly practical in nature so that you can integrate practices daily over the eight week and be supported throughout. The programme is arranged so you can begin to incorporate Mindfulness into your daily life straight away. Each week has been carefully crafted to build on the previous week and bring more aspects of Mindful Living into your life, so you can feel the benefit as the weeks go by.

As I mentioned in a previous page, mindfulness doesn’t have to be hard or separate from daily life. It can live in the pause before the kettle boils, in the way sunlight hits the floor, or in the simple act of listening and communicating. I teach in a way that invites ease, curiosity, and connection—helping others find presence not in perfection, but in the moment they’re already in.

Mindfulness Begins in the Body
Each week we practice both Formal and Informal Mindfulness.

Formal Mindfulness means we intentionally 'stop' and take time out to meditate. Over the eight weeks different meditations are explored and there is a commitment to practice
these at home each day between classes. Meditations are approximately 35 to 40 minutes.

Informal Mindfulness is exploring our everyday experiences through the filter of Mindfulness. For example, Mindful Eating, Mindful Listening, Mindful Communication, Mindful Movement, stressful situations and more.

We explore how we react and to stress and how instead we can respond when stressful situations arise. Over the eight weeks we have the opportunity to build our personal practice toward a more Mindful way of living as we practice the 9 principles of MBSR, Beginners Mind, Non- judging, Acceptance, Letting Go, Trust, Patience, Gratitude and Generosity.

Over time the embodied experience of being Mindful in our daily routine fosters awareness of the true value of Mindfulness in bringing us home to ourselves. Instead of being on autopilot and stuck in old habits it becomes easier to be awake and aware to the many aspects of our lives and we find the joy and beauty in life. And of course we have some fun along the way.
H
aving the structure of the eight weeks means there is plenty of time for feedback and input.

This programme was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and works within specific guidelines. Below are the themes we cover each week.

Week 1 Simple Awareness
Week 2 Perception and Responding
Week 3 Cultivating the Art of being Present
Week 4 Effective ways of Responding to Stress
Week 5 Acceptance, allowing, letting be and what that means
Week 6 Don’t believe everything you think/communication
Week 7 Mindfulness and Compassion
Week 8 Conclusion and Developing your own practice going forward

Day of Integration: This is a day of silence where we integrate the Mindfulness Practices learned over the past 7 weeks. This typically takes place on Saturday or Sunday, between week 6/7 or 7/8.

The MBSR Programme, developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at The University of Massachusetts Medical Centre, is highly valued and recommended by healthcare professionals worldwide, providing techniques for self-care in health, self-compassion and self-empowerment, while being a gentle and caring process at its core.

Testimonial: I participated in Freada's Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at Ananta Yoga studio over six months ago. I meditate regularly and thought it would be interesting to explore this view of quietening the mind. And yes, as I trained in the techniques of keeping my focus/awareness, my meditation practice flowed with greater ease. I also become aware of the opportunities "to slow down, to take a breath, and pay attention to my life as it is unfolding in the moment"
Freada conveys her wisdom with the deep understanding, fun and freedom of one who lives her teachings: a humble model of her message.
I highly recommend this course. _ Orlaith.
