Empowering patients and clients to take an active role in their own health care.
Thanks to science the positive effects of Mindfulness and Meditation on the brain are now well recognised. Science has shown that after eight weeks meditation practice we can actually change the structure of the brain. Grey matter associated with anxiety, stress, and depression diminishes while at the same time grey matter associated with calm, focus, ease, decision-making, increases. A mindfulness practice, combined with the advice of the healthcare professional allows patients and clients to take an active role in boosting and maintaining their health.
Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn, is an American professor emeritus of medicine and the creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme is recommended by Health Care Professionals worldwide as a means to reduce stress.
Mindfulness and Meditation is something people can learn to practice daily. It serves as a direct means of self-care for patients and clients and encourages and empowers people to learn practical ways to attend to themselves and their health and well-being.
Please note Mindfulness programmes are not a substitute for medication. Anyone receiving medication or who is currently under the guidance of a health careprofessional should consult their healthcare professional before making any changes to their healthcare.
