Ultimately, for me, this programme reduces stress by offering us a way to 'come home' to ourselves or as Emily McDowell says we can rekindle "A remembering of who you were before the world got its hands on you"
Designed as an eight week programme, MBSR ishighlypractical and supportive throughout. MBSR is evidence based and is especially designedto incorporate Mindfulnessinto your daily life straight away. Each week hasbeen carefully crafted tobuild on the previous week and bring more aspectsof Mindful Living in yourdaily life, so you can truly benefit as the weeks go by.
Mindfulness begins in the body Each week we come intoFormalMindfulness and Informal Mindfulness. Formal Mindfulness simply means we intentionally stop and take time out to meditate. Over the eight weeks different meditations are explored and it's highly recommended to practice these at home between classes. With several differentmeditations onoffer, over time, participants often settle onmeditations that suitthem personally.
Informal Mindfulness iswhen we explore our everyday experiences through the filter of Mindfulness. For example,Mindful Eating, MindfulListening, Mindful Communication, Mindful Movement and others. We explore our stress reactions vs responding and wethen explore these practices between classes.This gives us anopportunity to build on our personal practice and become fully present during everyday tasks. As this builds, the embodied experience of being in the moment, fully present during our daily life fosters awareness of the true value of Mindfulness in bringing us home to ourselves. Then it becomes easier and makes more sense to be awake and aware during more challenging times, without any expectations of what that might look like. Accepting the present moment gives us a platform for action or non-action in the next moment. Having the structure of the eight weeks also meansthere is plenty of time for feedback and input.
The MBSR Programme, developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at The University of Massachusetts Medical Centre, is highly valued andrecommended by healthcare professionals worldwide,providing techniques forself-care in health, self-compassion and self-empowerment, while being a gentleand caring process at its core.
